Hey guys, i have a 36gallon with 1clown, 1fire fish, 1watchman goby, 1clown goby..
I really want to get a black clown, but i heard you cant add a clown, only if they have been introduced together.

so can i just take the orange clown and black clown and put them in a seperate mutual hospital tank for a week, then add them both to the main tank? or do i have to give my clown away and buy 2 at the same time?

I added a second clown fish about 5 months after adding my first and had no issues at all, I added it after lights out though and when the light came back on in the morning the first one just swam over and checked the new one out, they acted tuff for a little bit and played the dominance game but now they are the best of friends and share the same anemone. I think u would be good to add it, just do so with the lights off and maybe change the LR around a little bit so everyone has to re-establish territories. Good luck!

We could assume that the larger clownfish is a female, but not knowing the sex of the clownfish you now have could lead us to making a mistake in our advice. Because all clownfish start out as male and later develop into female as the occassion requires, it would be best for us to know what has been the history of both of these clowns.

Well, my clowns were doing good but then over the weekend the bigger of the pair is starting to look a little torn up. When should I just give up and pull him out of the tank? I figure there will be a bit of fighting as they determine dominance, but I don't want to get one of them killed either.

just a follow up..
I bought a black clown easily twice as big about 1 weeka ago, and there was no problems at all, they did their own thing for the first day, and now they follow eachother like they have been mates for their whole lives.
