Ok I'm not sure what's going on as this will be the 4th time i've tried to post and it hasn't worked.  I'm going to try to post my pics in a second.  Ok I bought a ricordia rock from pet factory last week and there is something covering about 70% of the rock that is red/brown/yellow with spikes.  It looks like something is growning out of the spikes, and occassionaly I see a white film coming out of some of them. Could these be some kind of worms?  There are also 2 tube worms that have feather (some kind of feather duster?) that are on the rock, but are not connected to the other part.  Any help would be great as I haven't be able to figure it out on my own!

Thanks again!

Yep - a feather duster worm. I think the brown stuff is a type of sponge.

could the sponge hurt anything?  should I just leave it, or try to get rid of it?

The red brown stuff looks like it could even be green star polyps...

Sponge is an extrememely useful and helpful organism. It is a great part of filtration.

It makes me kind of chuckle to read your words of concern. You may soon come to realize that 99.9% of the stuff that grows in our reef aquariums makes for a healthy happy tank.
