Topic: Do Shrimp shed? Posted: April 04 2006 at 8:10pm |
I have a perfect shrimp shell - like a snake skin. Do shrimp shed or did someone have shrimp dinner?

Yes they do molt, and they will leave the old shell out in the open to distract any predators while its new shell is hardening.

Absolutely. I used to search for the real shrimp just to make sure he was alive!

If you remove it carefully it will dry and harden. Makes for a great show and tell item for the kids! However, it will be VERY fragile.

Well when I finally transferred the last of the inhabitant of the small tank into the larger one, there was only one shrimp where there had been 2. The good news is that the clown gobie, which hasn't been seen since we added it, was alive and well.
So that's it - take everything out for inventory on a quarterly basis!
