just wanted to ask for some help and input....

i have a 46 bow and yesterday my tank got to 93.5*.  i switched the temp probe from my display tank to my sump, i figured there wouldnt be all that much difference in temps. guess i was wrong.  i know that it hurt some corals but i am just wondering if there is anything i can do to help them recover.  how hard is this on sps lps and such? any help or input would be appreciated. thanx.. oh and my temp is back to normal....

Did your fish have hot flashes?

Watch your tank for the next couple of days. That is hard on corals and you will probably lose some of them. Hopefully not. If they start to die off make sure to pull any nasty ones out so you don't end up crashing the tank with a ammonia spike.
Again Hopefully it wasn't that high for to long and it will go on as usuall.

Care to elaborate? There shouldn't be any difference in temp between the sump and the display tank. If there is, you aren't moving the water through the system nearly fast enough.

well i have 2 175 mh xm 20k. they are in a canopy with two fans on them.  i have a mag 7 for my return pump.  every thing has been fine till i switched the probe.  i dont know why the temp difference is so extreme.  i am actually putting a mag twelve on my tank this weekend. so i hope that helps.

I agree, this dosn't make any sense at all.  My display and sump are exactly the same temperature.  Do you have the probe right next to a pump in the sump?  If it was truly 93 degrees you would have seen a decline in your corals almost imediately.  If your turning your tank water over in your sump at least 10X (which you should be) there is no way there could be that much of a difference.

I concur, your tank and sump should be the same temp.  Test this by putting a temp probe in both tanks.  Walmart/Hd sell thermometers with outside probes that are great for this and they are cheap(especially when compared to coral).  If the temps are different, you need more flow.

If it was really 93, all SPS will be dead now.
I suspect that your fans are not aimed at the water, the real value of cooling fans.
