Topic: Cleaner Wrasse or ??? Posted: September 21 2006 at 9:07am |
Okay so I have one fish that is a total ich magnet. The garlic and freshwater have no effect. This one stinkin' fish just loves to be covered in ich all the time. I'm considering a cleaner wrasse. So two questions 1) anyone seen a cleaner wrasse in a store recently and 2) anyone have another suggestion?

Let me guess.. It's the Acanthurus, right!
You can get a Cleaner Wrasse at the store that shall not be named. It's close to you and open today. A Cleaner Shrimp would be a logical choice as well, but you knew that.

All we have are Acanthurus.
I'd rather take my chances with the fish dying than the store that shall not be named as you put it. Unfortunately for the fish it can die if it is in the honor of integrity.
But another store must have one?

Mike- good suggestion. I happen to have a friend with an extra ozone. I think I'll call him up.

Use ozone to clear it up fast and uv sterilizer to keep it in check? Never tried it but, I'm not a fan of ozone either.

I love my cleaner wrasse. He does a good job cleaning the fish. The difference between a cleaner shrimp and the wrasse IMO is that the wrasse cleans the fish even if they don't want to be cleaned. -DAN

Is the fish eating and active?
IME, if the fish continues to eat well and remains active (grazing) then it will likely beat the ich.
I always have cleaner shrimp in my tanks for this type of thing. Although, the fish won't always pose to be cleaned.

I know most people say that using any chemicals is a bad idea, but when my fish came down with ich I used kick ich. It did the job in a few days, didn't hurt a single invert, and I didn't loose any fish!

Thanks for all the help. Lost a few fish to the ich. Got a UV, we'll see how well that helps. Should mention I do have cleaner gobies and cleaner shrimp.
