Alright here is a suggestion.  Actually it is a weird suggestion because I'm not really in favor of this.  But a friend of mine (in another aquarium club) loves doing this, so...
How about a Christmas Dinner?  We charge $25 per couple or $20 per person or whatever.  Pay the restaurant, club keeps the extra, and we have all sorts of prizes and give aways for those who attend.
Adam
(I don't like this because I don't like charging for events, but who knows maybe this would be fun)
Come to a meeting, they’re fun!

December is always a very hectic month for me.  Don't know if I'd have time for it.  I barely have time to fit in the Festivus activities.

I think it would be fun, but time is also an issue.  It would be hard to sqeeze something else in, but we would definately try if we have one.

Do it in February, make it right after a fish meeting, somewhere close to the meeting location at a diner or something, and I'm in.

Except for the prizes and such...Come to SL Pizza and Pasta with us after every meeting.

As for a "Christmas Dinner"...It is such a busy time of the year.  In fact, my company doesn't even have a christmas party anymore.  In January, we have a company party with games, prizes, dinner, etc.  Much better.  We get much better attendance.

Maybe a meeting like this could be used to boost attendance in a period where it slips down a little? Just a thought. Otherwise, I think it would be great, but probably not close to Christmas. Maybe create an official "club holiday" at some other time in the year to do it? LOL I would come!

I like Amy's idea of a valentine's dinner.  The dinner after the meeting is to late for me since I'm on eastern time in my brain.  (note the time of this post).

For clarification- this event wouldn't add one more event to your calendar.  This would be an activity used as the monthly meeting.  So it could just be the regular club meeting time and place.  (for those concerned with having too much already going on).
More info- found out from another friend that they are doing the same type of thing as this.  But during the dinner (which is a fancy dinner) they are having an aquarium guest speaker.  A banquet type event with an actual program.
I actually like this idea.

Whoa whoa whoa, I'm not president.  Like I said I'm not sure I'm in favor of it.  I think it would be a total blast and we'd have a great time with a nice dinner, spouses, guest speaker.  I think it would be the best meeting of the year.
But I'm always against having a charge for meetings.  To me, one of the best things about our club is that we have free meetings and welcome all sorts of new people.  Then again if it is a once a year type of nice event that would be cool.  Maybe something for next years presidency to consider.

The Utah Pond Club just had a catered dinner at Famous Daves. It was fun!

I think this would be fun if we did it in Feburary or March.  After all the big holidays.  I also am not sure I would like to replace the main meeting with a paid event.

Is it just me or do Jake and I sometimes sound like the same person.  I think we've spent too much time discussing items in the past.
Jake- I agree.
