it depends on what kind of stingray you want. you can do a search on the kind of stingray that you like and it'll tell you what requirements you need and minimum tank size.

Dont think about the total gallons. Think about the area of the bottom of the tank. Keep an open sandbed with little or no rock. I would say 3'x6' would be minimum, but im sure you could keep one alive for a while in something smaller (especially if it's a small ray).

I thought your stingray died Mark. I don't think it's a good idea to put a stingray in a 120 gallon tank. I have never heard of any stingray doing well (for long)in a tank of that size.

Most people that choose to keep a Ray are not well experienced hobbyists. I had no experience with Rays so my first Ray, a male Blue Spot Ribbontail, died because of underfeeding, and perhaps loneliness. Since then, I have learned much about feeding and how to keep them. The pic above is the current female Blue Spot Ribbontail Stingray, very happy and healthy, I might add. But this requires extra filtration. I have a 4-6" bed of Oolitic sand, and tons of macroalgae growing in both the tank and the Refugium.

The space that this tank offers is the entire bottom because of the suspended reef. This provides a large bed of LS. The female is doing awesome and seeking a mate. I'll let everyone know when her mate arrives.Big%20smile

What have you learned about feeding and how to keep a ray, if you don't mind my asking?  I am very interested in getting one after seeing your setup and I just want to know some helpful things before I do so.
