i want to put a 210 gal tank inwall the floor is 110 tgi floor joist 16" on center.  the front of the tank will sit on the bearing wall and it will go 2 feet into the room off the wall. it will spane like 5 joist i can't inforce it from the basment because it is finished and ideas? i asked firefish hw has a 210 gal he gave me weights this is what he came up with.

Well, fortunately for me, not for you, the family room where it sits is concrete floor. The aquarium itself is probably;

aquarium = 400
rock     = 200
sand     = 200
stand    = 100
water    =1680

rough total = 2580 and I would round that up to 3000 lbs. It is hard to determine what your floor could support, but I would guess it could handle it. But I'm not an expert.

I thought more people would pipe up. It may take an engineer visiting your house to figure it out. I think that we would all be surprised what kind of weight our homes can withstand, but you can never be too sure.

I will do some research and get back with you.

tamortman,

Do a search on this MB about floor joists or tank weight. There was a comprehensive thread about this topic a while back.

Also - check with Corey Price (Corwando). He can certainly help you with the details.

BTW, I wouldn't hesitate to place the tank as you have explained. If the tank is over a bearing wall and will span several joists - I'd feel very comfortable with the placement.

Good luck.

the aga tech says the aquarium weight is 343 lbs full weight with water is 2450 so i would plan on a little more weight then what you are thinking with sump and all
