Topic: Frogfish Posted: April 24 2007 at 11:49pm |
I snapped a couple pics of my frogfish while he was luring tonight. I thought you might enjoy them. I am pretty sure he is Antennarius hispidus.
You can see the esca pretty good in the pic. When it was moving it always blurred.
Here you can see the esca (lure) and illicium (althought blurred).

That is an awesome frogfish! I'm still looking for one for my nano, where did you get yours at?

I'll see your hispidus and raise you a striatus.
In this pic, the esca is visible, although it is not luring.
Awesome finnage!
The display: 3.5 gallon mini bow front. Small piece of LR, some LS from an existing tank and a HOB filter with biowheel.

No way! I remember reading somewhere that striatus are tougher than hispidus. I can't seem to find the link, but I remember reading that ...
Jake - didn't Scott M tell us that frogfish waste was easily removed? I haven't seen any to remove? What should I be looking for?

Yes, he said their waste is solid and easy to remove. I have not seen any either, but I am sure my bristle worms make quick work of it.
striatus is latin for weak.
hispidus is latin for strong.

Ever since chicken fighting was banned in the 47th of the 48 lower states, I've been looking for a new passtime. I've got a receding bird's nest colony and a frag of GSP on Jake's Frogfish. Any takers? No offense Shane, but I have it on good authority that Jake's fish fights dirty.
jamison is latin for chronic gambler.
I'll bet you $10 someone here will think I'm joking.

Latin, smatin ...
I know my fish and it ain't no chump. hispidus might be strong, but striatus are known for their bow staff skills.
I guess that changes everything! You still want to risk that birds nest Jamison?
Jake - how often are you feeding?

Once or twice a week, unless I want to show him off then when I have company.

Do you think a couple clowns would survive in a nano with a frog? Does the Frog stay on the substrate exclusively or will he sneak into the clowns xenia patch at night for a snack?

I kept my frogfish (way stronger than Jake's and Heil's combined) in my 8 gal with my two anemonefish and never had a problem. He also never went for my shrimp. I'm going to get another ( Histrio histrio this time) in a couple months. So flippin' cool.
Adam
ps- my frogfish spent last summer in Alaska hunting wolverines
