Maybe the WMAS can get sponsorship deal with the major players in the hobby. We could all wear shirts with their patches all over them. We would get free stuff, and GROUPIES! Ok... maybe that's a bit overboard. But I agree that someone to actively market is a great idea, but maybe we should all be active in it? 100 people marketing would be phenomenal!

Just want to throw out a warning here. I to agree that a marketing person is warranted. However, keep in mind what the goals of the club, or presidency have been. We aren't looking to grow and expand, we aren't looking to sign some sponsors, and we aren't looking to be more professional.
Now that could all change with the next presidency, but just wanted to throw our a warning so people don't have the wrong idea about the club's goals.

Carl, if you do a search for "Fish Nerd" shirts, you will find a thread about this very topic. It was quite funny, it actually got brought up a presidency meeting at Steve Lopez's house about 1-1/2 yrs ago.

And we have done this before, made WMAS polo shirts back in 1997, but too few people bought them to repeat the mistake.

Most of my friends think I'm weird enough without wearing a "Hey look at me, I'm a fish nerd" shirt.

Two quick items....
1- Some positions only have one person nominated at this point. Please feel free to make this competitive and nominate more people. (especially for president)
2- If you are looking forward to being on next year's presidency, please feel free to post here that you are hoping to win. That way when people vote they will know you are looking forward to this, and not just leaving your name on the list for the fun of it.
Thanks

I'll step up to volunteer as a nominee for Audio Visual Specialist, and might be able to participate in a joint capacity in another position as time permits.

As I mentioned in the notes for February. It will be difficult for me to attend all of the meetings. I will probably be at about half of them. I think folks would like to recieve notes from more meetings than that. I would like to help out on the council or in a back up roll to the new secretary, should he or she not be available on a day that I am available. If nobody wants to be secretary, I will be happy to continue providing the notes on the days that I am able to attend the meetings. I really enjoy the opportunity of being secretary and am not saying I don't want to be nominated for it. It's just an availability issue. (breath)

Noooo.... I'll get even Ryan!
I was volunteering my time to be on some "backroom commitee" somewhere. You know making big decisions like whether to go with hotdogs or hamburgers at the picnic .
In all honesty, I don't feel I have the time to devote to that post.
VOTE ADAM IN 2004!

I second the nomination! This is the most unorganized election I've ever seen. Worse than most third world countries.

I just got thinking, finally , and realized that with all the new people coming into the club each month, there needs to be one or two Assistant Treasurers to help with the job of taking memberships and selling raffle tickets. Either some elected Council Members could be appointed or we could also vote for Assistant Treasurer(s). What think ye? P.S. It's fun to go back to Adam's beginning post and see it change with each edit.

I guess I did have the wrong idea. What exactly would the role of a marketing person be? In a corporation, it would be to grow and expand, form partnerships, and manage a public image -- All to the end of bettering the public offering. What would the role of a marketing person in the WMAS be then?

Timothyuhl, That's really good food for thought. Do you have some suggestions? We do seem to be growing quite rapidly with things the way they are, mostly because of this website, which btw, was initiated 5 years ago, during Joe Jones' Presidency. BTW I gave a person a card (second one this week) at Bird World. The person with me, just looked at me in amazement. I guess it takes a lot of guts to do it but I just pull a card out of my wallet and go up to the person and ask if they knew there is a club as I hand them the card. Works every time and it's easy to do. Maybe I'm unique, but I've always thought of membership as a "contribution" to the cause of improving the hobby and educating people, as much or more than something I get out of it. This website provides immeasurable value in both $$ saved and sheer enjoyment to all of us. Isn't that worth supporting? Edit: I paid for membership in the National Geographic Society for many years. That is an expensive magazine, if that is all I was looking to get out of it. But there is satisfaction in knowing that a few bucks of membership in that organization goes toward discovering more about this world and in that discovery, Homo Sapiens comes a little closer to understanding how to take care of their world. I'm looking forward to a presentation regarding Aquarium Photography whenever it is scheduled. I hope we are planning on it.

I would be willing to help out in the presidency as well. Being an accountant maybe I could help Mark out as the assistant treasurer. I'm sure I could figure out how many raffle tickets to give out per $1 donation.
