I recently added a Kenya Tree (Sinularis sp) and a Red Brain(Lobophyllia sp) to my 20 gallon nano reef.  I have noticed that the zoanthid population have become stressed and stay closed most of the time.  The large Sea Mats on the top center rock showed the first signs and then the orange Zoanthid rock closed and has not opened for three days except for a few polyps.  They appeared as happy as a clam before this addition.  The water parameters are good except that the nitrates are higher than I want (NO3 = 20ppm and PO = .1ppm).  Other readings are: Temp 80f; SG 1.024; PH 8.2; Calcium 350; Nitrite 0; Ammonia 0; Alk 5.5.  Are there any suggestions?  The tank is quite new at 3 months but is doing good otherwise with new coraline growth.

Sinularia can put off some pretty toxic compounds, but these usually only effect stony corals.

You may want to run some carbon in your filter and see if this helps.  It may be temporary.

I have been ruining carbon and Phosgard.  I am hoping that time will help but I can't help but worry about the change with the zoos.
