Hi, my husband and I are trying to decide on a stocklist for our 65 gallon tank. We also have a 20 gallon sump, Coralife skimmer, and chaeto (w/ some kind of calupera) in our refugium. It is a reef tank with invertebrates.

Fish we have now:
- maroon clownfish
- purple firefish

Fish we are considering:
- green mandarin (last to be added, after copepods multiply)
- blue reef chromis (x2)
- banggai cardinal (tank raised)
- possum wrasse
- tono's fairy wrasse
- panda or green clown goby
- goby w/ a pistol shrimp

Alternates:
- blue assessor (if we don't get the blue reef chromis)
- blue/green chromis (also if we don't get the blue reef chromis)
- starry blenny
- royal gramma basslet
- ventralis or bartlett's anthias

Will these fish get along? Do they have different & interesting personalities? How many of these fish can we safely keep in a 65 gallon? Is there a different fish you would suggest?

What are your thoughts? Thanks in advance for your help!

(sorry if this double-posts, I keep getting errors)

They Royal Gramma may have a problem with the Purple Firefish. The Possum Wrasse is an awesome fish but they are very shy and will die if they are picked on. They don't do too well in a community type tank unless it is large and they have adequate hiding places.

I had Marine Aquatics order in a Possum Wrasse a few years ago. Unfortunately he was shy and I never saw him after the first 5 minutes.

Sorry about the multiple posts, I keep getting errors. Even while just trying to view the forums.

So the royal gramma is out, he was pretty much my last choice anyway.

So is there a particular fish on my wishlist that would pick on the possum wrasse? Or it just won't thrive in general with other tankmates? Because I tried to pick the most "peaceful" fish I could find. I was told to get him & a fairy wrasse, and to introduce them at the same time. But I could pass on the fairy wrasse if I had to.

How many of these fish could I keep with this set-up? Everyone I ask gives me different numbers, from "5 total" to "5-7 medium & lots of small fish." So I don't really know what would be a good amount...

Thanks again.

how many you keep is going to depend upon your filtration. what are you having in terms of a skimmer, refugium, sump, no sump etc.

Well Maroon clowns are not peaceful and I don't know about the fairy wrasse. I think the rest would be fine.

I've had my possum wrasse for probably two months now and have really enjoyed having him in my tank. Although he is shy I get a glimpse of him everyday when I feed. After being in the tank for awhile he is now brave enough to come out from the rocks and eat some mysis. He is housed with two tangs, a linear blenny, three blue chromis, and two black cinnamon clowns.  I only wish I could get a good picture of him.

That is encouraging to hear indeed! I am trying to decide between the possum wrasse or the blue reef chromis as my next fish. But I can only seem to find the blue reef chromis from 2 online retailers, and both list them as delicate shippers & so there is no arrival guarantee. Does anyone have any experience with these fish? I guess I could try to see if a local store could order them in for me. Otherwise I guess I'll just have to try my luck online. I could always order more than the 2 I'm looking for, & if others survived I could trade them in... Decisions decisions!

The Blue Reef Chromis is a beautiful fish but I have only seen them locally once. Maybe they really are delicate shippers?

I got him from Divers Den on liveaquaria. Do you have a place to get the possum wrasse. I waited almost 6 months before I was able to locate one.
