Topic: My new 125G Posted: July 28 2008 at 3:48pm |
Well my 125 is up and running and stocked with fish. Now I need to work on the corals. Here are a few pictures. Tell me what you think.
I bought the tank used from one of our members (Fishfinder07) here on the board back in the winter. After a cold snowy day trying to get it back to the house It was time to clean it. I knew I had kids for a reason.
After I got it all cleaned out it was time to drill the tank for the closed loop. Eight total holes had to be drilled in the back. I hit a small snag on hole #8, the tank cracked. So I had to go out and buy a new tank. 10 Minutes after getting it home, I fired up the drill and started drilling holes in the new one. Here is a shot of the plumbing after all the holes were drilled and plumbing was completed
Tanks first inhabitant. In the back you can see the 1.5" tank jets that I installed for the CL system.
Here is a picture of the tank now that I have it set up with a few fish.
And a few fish

How about a little info on the guts of the system. Is that all new LBTR, did you seed it with anything? Did you have a diatome outbreak at first?

I guess it would be good to give you all the info.
Sump:
The sump is a 55G tank that is divded into 3 chambers. The left chamber is the flow from the main tank and where I am putting all the equipment. ASM G2 protein skimmer provides the skimming. The right chamber is the fuge. It has a seperate water feed so that I can keep the flow at a low level. It is lit by the HomeDepot clip on light special. I have Cheato and Calurpa growing in the fuge. The sump is located in my basement. Plumbing feeds through the wall up to the main tank.
Circulation:
Circulation between the sump and main tank is provided by a Rio 32HF pump. With 7 feet of head preassure this give me about 1100 GPH of flow through the sump. I have a Reeflo Dart pump running a closed loop system that draws from 2 1.5" drains and returns to the tank through 6 1.5" spa tank jets. The opening on the balls are actually 1".
All of the large rock in the main tank is all fresh LBTR that I got from Firefighter6681 here on the boards. There are 2 small rocks, one on the right and one on the left both resting on the sand that came out of my 16g. Most of the sand that is in the main tank is dry sand that I got when I bought the tank. I seeded it with 20 lbs of live sand that I bought from MSM. I put about 20lbs of live rock rubble in the sump that I also got from MSM. There is about 8" of sand in the fuge that I was given from a friend of mine that was taking down his tank. So I did get a bit of seeding to start the tank.
The lighting is a CurrentUSA OuterOrbit Pro. 6' long 3x250W HQI MHs, 4x39W T5 420nm actincs and 4x39W T5 460nm actincs. The actincs are on for 12 hrs, the MHs are on for 8 hrs. I have 2 clip on fans that blow across the top of the tank while the MHs are on to help keep it cool. Temperatures range from 76F to 79F.
I think that just about covers everything. Let me if anyone has any more questions.

Good choice on the Oceaninc salt. Lol. How are you liking the closed loop?

So, If i am reading this right, you did a closed loop with a pump that was under 100$?

The closed loop is running on a Reeflo Dart. So the pump is quite a bit more expensive than $100. But I did buy the pump used for under $100 so, yes and no. The CL is great. There is a ton of flow in the tank. It will pay off alot more when I start getting my SPS. Right now I turn the CL off at night. I read somewhere that some people slow their flow down at night, so I am trying to see how it works out. And I'm actually not using Oceanic salt in this tank, that is an old jug that I still have around. I had too many problems with alkalinity and PH when I used Oceanic so I switched to Red Sea Coral Pro.

The wet room has been great. The only noise in my family room is the sound of the the water going down the overflow and using the AGA megaflo kits this sound is really quiet. Maintenance is a breeze with everything on a stand. I have a ball valve on the closed loop that dumps straight into my sink in the basement. So draining water off the tank is as simple as opening a ball valve.

I like the fish room too! Hard to believe it is a 125. It looks bigger.
