Topic: Clownfish in 10G Posted: January 07 2009 at 10:23am |
So for my nephews birthday last year i got him a 10G with a beta fish, and now he is asking if he can have a nemo, I really dont want to go out and get a new tank if i can help it. Would I be able to house a Percula Clownfish in a 10G all right??? Was thinking of just throwing in some sand from my tank a peice of LR and some macro in there and put a small PC on top. what you think Do-able?

If you're in Utah County, Jay's Jungle has the best price on Clowns... they're usually $10-$12 each.

Center Street in Provo. maybe 4th or 5th west... (I'm not 100% sure about how far West, you'll have to check on that)

I have a small pair of clowns in a 12gal using CPs, LR, and live sand. Happy as a clam! We just added a goby rainfordi today. I think the tank will support them as long as the clowns dont get bigger.

Nemo, Blue Damsel, Peppermint Shrimp, Leather Coral, Frogspawn Coral, 3 snails and Macroalgae in a 2 gal hex with an airstone for circulation and small "daylight" twist PC for good light. This was set up for 6 months or more.
Sorry for the bad pick and dirty glass. Here's an awesome 10 gal that was TOTM in 2003. Probably not what you would give as a gift to your nephew. It cost about $300, was very easy to maintain, had no external filtration... http://www.utahreefs.com/tankofthemonth/MarkPeterson/tank_of_the_month.htm

Personally, I would not do a sand dwelling fish in anything smaller than a mature 75gal. It will not have enough sand to sift through to get enough to eat. Midwater fish would work well. I would not add a Tang or other herbivorous fish because growing macroalgae is a major part of filtration and tank health in a small tank. Just use plenty of snails to keep nuisance algae away. Just two Nemo's at first will make your nephew very happy. A calm Damsel, like a YTBlue, and a bicolor blenny would add excitement later as the tank matures. Bangaii Cardinal are ideal nano fish.
