My wife and other family asked for gift ideas from me, for me. So I gave them a small affordable list of stuff I still need for the 30 gal. But one question is how long are the liquid test good for if unopened? I'm still some time out on set up due to remodeling. And what are some good brands that aren't to terribly expensive?

Thanks, people. You all have been so helpful so far with my pesty quetions.

I believe the stated expiration for API tests is 1 year, and something to do with the printed lot number gives away the manufacture date.

I believe Salfert all have expiration dates on the box now, I thought it was also 1 year from manufacture

I like API tests, good/cheap/easy/reliable enough for me tests, I only wish someone made a reliable/cheap Mag test

I only seem to use the calcium and Alk test on a regular basis, the others all expire on me before they are gone, so I probably would hold off buying test kits if you are not setting up for a while
