    Posted: March 04 2010 at 2:08am
So I have started the process of setting up my new tank, and am very excited about the possibilities. I will post pics as I get underway with the setup. So if anyone has any suggestions or awesome ideas put them out there!

Tank size: 180 gallons
Sump: DIY Custom Acrylic sump with refugium
Lighting: T5's and PAR 38 LED
Return Pump: 2- 32HF pumps (one on each overflow)
Curculation:4  Koralia 3's 1 Koralia 2
Filtration: DIY Cone Skimmer (comparable to ATB 1040), LR, LS, refugium w/ DSB
Supplements: Calcium Reactor, Kalk stirrer, and a couple other dosing pumps, ATO
RO Unit: Typhoon3 5 stage RO/DI with TDS meter

I will be using mostly Fiji LR from my existing reef along with some LBTR for my larger base pieces. I plan on using a finer sand for my substrate but will be using the sand from my existing reef to seed the new sand.

Livestock:
This tank will be a mixed reef (mostly SPS and LPS) with very few soft corals, but will also house gorgonians, sponges, a few clams, and of course the clean-up crew. I will be moving all of my fish from my existing reef to the this tank, and am still toying with ideas of any new fish to add.

Fish to be moved to this tank:
Bluejaw Trigger
Powder Brown Tang
Yellowtail Damsel
Purple & Red Firefish
Coral Beauty Angel
Flashlight fish (3)
Pearly Jawfish
Foxface
2 Orange perc clowns
1 Black perc Clown
2 Black/Yellow Aussie Clarkii's

NEW FISH ADDITIONS:
Green Mandarin
Achilles Tang
Naso Tang
Purple tang
Blue Spot Jawfish
Mystery Wrasse
Christmas Wrasse
Tri-Color Wrasse
McCoskers Flasher Wrasse
Squamipinnis (Male)
Midas Blenny

So an update on my progress. In getting ready for the Reef Tour I have stripped all the old silicone out of the tank (it was used) and re-sealed the whole thing, I also cleaned the glass up, and have been screening utah sand for the fuge. I am still debating whether or not to use it in the display. I've also picked up all the salt mix I'll need, and am finishing up my designs for the sump. I have both my return pumps in and ready to go, and will have my skimmer by the end of the week (I hope) it will handle a heavily stocked 500 gallon so the 180 should be cake for it. I'm going to be picking up all the LS I can find, and will be needing fully cured LR so if you have some please hit me up.

Things still to do:
Cut holes in stand for plumbing
Build sump
Plumb tank
Order the new fish/corals
Make the move!
Do the Tour!

Thanks Brad, my goal is to one day have a tank as awesome as yours! My RO unit, various pumps, plumbing parts and more will be arriving this week so I'll post pics as I get everything put together. Thanks to tcfab for the awesome skimmer. It is an exact replica to the ATB 1040 cone skimmer, and should skim some serious water.

Got the holes cut in my stand today, and will be receiving pretty much everything else I need over the next couple days, and will start building my sump tomorrow. Now all I need are a few more paydays and to order my new corals and fish.

Thanks, I really like sponges in general so I make it a point to try and collect the more interesting ones I find. I ran out of room in my 65 for holding corals and fish, so most of my new stuff is hanging out in my frag tank until I fill the 180.

I'm just seaming my last side to my sump on now and then will let it cure over the weekend before a water test. My Ro/DI will be here monday and I'll fill the tank!

Got the tank filled all the way and running with sump and skimmer today. I used 300 lbs of live sand, and about 55 lbs of fully cured LR. It has been running without the sump for 3 days now and I think the cycle, if any even occured is over. Snails are coming out of the sand, There are new tracks from bristleworms and everything is looking good. I just am going to wait for the dust to settle and will start moving fish, corals, and more rock over the next few days.
