I have a couple sets of these in stepped magnification for different sized lenses.  They seem to work pretty well and I have been happy with most of the shots I get using them.

Also, it seems like the higher the magnification the less depth of field you have.  So my 2X or 4X seems to get better shots than the 10X and using them together to get still higher magnification makes it very difficult to get good shots, but it can be done.
