So I picked up this tank used from a guy in ogden.  His add was totally wrong on the measurements.  I thought I was picking up a 40 breeder.  I brought it home and measured and it looks a little bigger then that.  It is 36x21x18 I calculated it to be around 58 gallon.  Not complaining about that.  I got it for a great deal of $65.00 with tank, stand and canopy.  The tank is reef ready with 1.5inch drain and 1 inch return and built in overflow box.  The tank does not have any visual scratches on it.  The canopy and stand look old but are sturdy and has a new coat of stain on it.  It also includes a 36 inch reflector in the canopy with 2 3 foot PC bulbs.

Not a bad buy huh?  I am really excited to get this going.  My plans of building my 45 gallon tank have now changed.  All I need is a sump/skimmer/pump.  I plan on buying some good lights but if I can find a cheap PC ballast I could get wet sooner then later.  Here is a link to the ksl add and pics of the tank.  Tell me what you think.

Ahh.. you were the one that snatched that up. I called him and he said he had just barely sold it. Good find!

So the wife doesnt like the color of the stand and im not very good with wood.  I'm sure there is an easy way to paint this stand black but im not sure how to go about it.  Do I just sand it down and put some black paint on it?  Am I safe to paint the bracing on the tank black as well?

I'm not great with wood, but yeah just sand it off with a coarse sand paper and then finish it with a smooth sand paper to ready it for painting.

Maybe someone like Dion with more experience will chime in

I got some paint, taped off the tank with left over christmas wrapping paper and painted the bottom trim.  The top is covered by the canopy so I only did the bottom.  Turned out good.  Im building my Durso/plumbing and sump tomorrow.

I have been real busy.  The tank is looking good.  I got my T5 Light, sand and rock in the tank.  I also finished the plumbing so it is nice and quiet.  I am really happy with the way it is turning out.  I'll post pics as soon as the dust settles.
