We will have a Guest Speaker at our May meeting and we wanted to get your input on this.  We don't just book speakers, we like to get a lot of input from everyone first.

Feel free to tell us what topic you'd like to learn more about.

Or tell us a specific speaker you'd like to hear.

Share your thoughts and we'll bring in a rockin' speaker for the May meeting.

Thanks,

Adam
Come to a meeting, they’re fun!

The kind of stuff I really like is hearing how others run there systems. I love new innovative ideas that work. Here in Utah we have a certain way of doing things and it's all the same old thing (to us that is) so a speaker who knows about other ways of building systems and running them would be cool.

I thought of another topic I'd like to learn about. Biological Warfare. What and how different corals will react to each other in the tank. I'd love to hear about some kind of case study about various corals and their compatibility in a tank environment. Sort of a what works close together, what works far apart, and what will kill what on the other side of the tank.

For a guest speaker, I would like to nominate myself, and talk about what it is like to be married to an obsessed fish hobbyist.  I would like to invite all wives to attend!!!!
Thank you for your consideration, and a moment of your time,

Actually, we in the WMAS have always been on the cutting edge of trying new methods. All you have to do is take a tour of WMAS member aquariums to see a lot of different ways to set up and maintain tanks from the fully automated, extra gadgeted, overstocked reef to the sugar/carbon supplemented ultra bacterial driven filtration system to the natural sunlight no frills Mother Nature operated system.
For lighting we also have it all.
This meeting could be very effective by just picking four or five members and give them each 20 minutes to explain how and why their system works for them, with pics and visuals too, of course. Another great idea Micah.Clap

Speaker Title:  "How to Transform the Dark Places of your Reef"

Cheesy enough...looking to fill in those dark places, crevices, caves, overhangs, with diverse ocean life, I know it can be done, I have seen it in some tanks, but help me understand how.

I would be interested in hearing from a NPS specialist.  I don't see too many NPS corals and animals in many of our tanks (except for Capn), perhaps because we lack a lot of knowledge on the idea.  For example, I would love to get better growth on my dendro, be able to add some unique sponges that thrive, understand how to properly care for cocoworms (save that crown!), gain knowledge of whether such animals can successfully thrive in a LPS or SPS tank, Biowarefare, importance of biodiversity, importance of phyto, the list goes on.  I am not looking to ask how to run an all NPS tank, I just would like to include some of that amazing ocean life in my home reef. For example, there are literally some sponges out there that give corals a run for their money in beauty and coloring.  All I hear is it can't be done, they are too hard, etc....or I come up short myself in trying to keep the animals thriving....I need a speaker that specializes in the area to help me out!  Perhaps just to re-enforce the idea that it can't be done.... Embarrassed  or what it would take for it to be done...

Adam I enjoyed your presentation at Reef-a-poolza about unique tanks or species only tanks.

Also at RAP my wife really enjoyed the simple do it yourself how to build a good sump presentation.  I believe Melev's reef guy did that one.

We are always partial to Scott Michael!  Wink

Really I had heard he was cheap. I heard he would do it for free as long as there was some Dairy Delight involved!
