I am finally getting the upper hand on the hair algae issue I went and pulled out as much as I could by hand; then I used a soft toothbrush to scrub off some areas that still had algae. Next, I tripled my PO4 remover in the reactor and upped my Mag to 1500+ ppm... then, I added in 20 large (1") Nassarius Vibrex snails and 2 more Tiger Conches (for a total of 3 Conches). That makes a total on the snail count of: - 25 Turbos - 25 Ceriths - 25 Astreas - 25 Nerites - 20 Nassarius - 3 Conch That's 123 snails! Plus I have 50 Red Leg hermit crabs, 25 BLue Leg hermits, 3 Sea Cucumbers, 3 Fire Shrimp, and 2 Skunk Cleaner Shrimp. One heck of a CUC! I also changed my lighting from having my VHO actinics on for 13consecutive hours, with the 250w 14K halide on for 8.5 of those hours, to having the VHOs on only when the halide isn't... so only 4 hrs / day. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here is a new video taken this evening... Look for the new Powder Blue Tang and the ultra-sweet Red Ridge Ball Sponge(s) and my 6" ORA Blue Striped Deresa Clam - and a few new corals as well:

Where did you get the vida rock at? How does it compare to regular live rock, or Utah rock?

I got the Vida Rock from Burt, who got it from Carameco.
I like it alot. About the only thing I didn't think of was that I should have drilled a whole bunch of 1/4" holes in it (to hold frag plugs) before I put it in the tank.
Otherwise, liking it alot...lots of nooks, crannies and caves built right in

I can't believe that I have not updated this thread in like 9 months
I snapped a few of pictures last night, trying out a new battery for my camera.
Things have been going pretty good - but the tank looks a bit different now:
Biggest changes:
1) Aquascaping
I removed about 30% of the rockwork; actually cut the Vida Rock centerpiece in half and took half out. No real reasons for the change, other than I saw a couple other more 'minimalistic ' looking cubes and decided to try it out. Overall, I am pleased with the change...
2) Corals
Several are gone because they weere attached to that rockwork I removed. Hammer corals have grown substantially (and been moved) along with the Duncan's which have added about double the heads over the past 9 months. Pulsing Sinularia I actually fragged off about half of it recently, and it is still as big today as it was 9 months ago. I have slightly been graduating over to more SPS and a few less softies. Gone are the Purple Cap and most of those smaller Millepora frags, along with the deepwater Carolinia acro (all fell down / fell off the rocks and got 'lost in the sandbed' for too long - I really HATE trying to glue frags!); my Orange Cap has not only grown triple-fold, it is now a Red Cap (!)
Acans are now down in the sandbed and have added multiple new heads; Candycanes have added some heads; Both Cyphestreas and the Rainbow Trach were sold, still have the Xmas Trach; Orange Lobo looks about the same; Red Lobo is fading fast after having been stung to hell by the Neon Green Hammer. Pagoda Cup is slowly fading because it keeps getting knocked down / flipped over by the wrasses.
I have added several new corals including an Orange Octospawn, Orange Digitata, Green Digitata, Green Cap, Purple Milli, and a blueish plating coral I can't remember the name...
Sponges, the Blue still looks great, the Orange Fan has shruken a bit since I started running alumina resin for pO4 / sIO4 removal (sponges are made of silicates, so not unexpected); Orange Tree Sponge and Spider Sponge slowly faded away after I lowered the amount of liquid feeding... unfortunate, but (quite frankly) I would rather have the white sandbed than the sponges and a sandbed covered in goo...
Anenomes, I now have 5 or 6 RBTAs and the 2 LTAs. The LTA only split the one time; the RBTAs keep splitting like crazy! If I could remove them without hurting them, I would go back down to 1 each, to free up more space for corals.
3) Fish
Still have the Melanarus Wrasse, Mystery Wrasse, 6 - Line Wrasse, Cuban 2 - spot Candy Wrasse, Foxface, Oscellaris Clown, Banggai Cardinal, Lawnmower Blenny and Orange Tailed Blue Damsel.
Lost the 2 Tangs and the Cleaner Wrasse (PB just died one day, no symptoms; Cleaner just dissappeared - and the Kole jumped out and became Fish Jerky). Traded away the 2 Angels and the Clown Fairy and TriColor Wrasses.
Added an Elegance Wrasse and a Fisher's Angel. Would like to add another Angel or maybe try another Tang - but that Fisher's is a mean little bastardo.

Here's a few more pics:
New: Orange Octospawn, Orange Digi, misc scroll and a Cup frag from the last Fragfest, Green Digi, and "used to be orange, now it is red" Monti Cap
Large Green Fungia I got from BW maybe 3 months ago; still have the ORA Deresa Clam, Orange Lobo, etc
Other side, Duncans are doing well, oh, and I forgot to mention the Pink Tube Anenome from Reef ON picked up at the April or May meeting
Pom Poms were moved up into higher flow and have actually grown about 4 X since the move
This Acro was totally browned out when I got it for a real good price. Note the Green Stylo trying to recover from an RBTA stinging
Looking for an ID on the bluish plating coral in the center of the pic

Is it just me or does that Purple Kenya Tree look like it is more of a carnation than kenya? Either way it is gorgeous and I totally want it, but if it is a carnation it will do better with high flow, lower lighting, and additional feedings of small zoaplankton type foods. Also, I find they do better in a "dirty" tank as apposed to a super clean tank. Eric from Marine Aquatics and I had a friendly contest to see who could keep one alive longer and mine did so much better in my tank than his did in his perfect display tank... I forgot to mention they also like to hang upside down in good flow... Here is a pic of what I am talking about... See the texture of the stalk? Normal kenya tree is smooth as apposed to the carnation which is textured. Pic of a carnation: http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/detailed_image.cfm?pCatId=2162Bob's "Purple Kenya Tree"

And 4 month later, things have changed yet again:
Parameters
Temp = 75.4 - 760 (24 hr swing)
SG = 1.0255
pH = 8.0 - 8.1
dKH = 10.0 - 10.5
nH3 = 0 / undetectable
nO2 = 0 / undetectable
nO3 = 0 / undetectable
pO4 = 0 / undetectable
Ca = 440 - 460 ppm
Mg = 1350 - 1400 ppm
Here is the current fish list:
2- Melanarus Wrasse (4" Male and 2.75" female)
2 - Percula Clowns
1- 2.75" Mystery Wrasse
1- 2.5" Lubbock's Fairy Wrasse
1- 3" Elegance Wrasse
1- 2.5" Cuban 2-Spot Wrasse
1- 2" Orange Tail Blue Damsel
1- 3" Fischer's Angel
1- 2" Banggai Cardinal
1- 2" 6 Line Wrasse
1- 3" Lawnmower Blenny
1- 2" Purple Firefish (STILL in the overflow for an entire year!)
Corals, I have sold off or traded several; most of the rest have been progressing nicely. One of the scroll pieces and the orange acans have been stung all to heck by growing Hammer coral colonies; the purple acro has a few burn marks on it as well, from being knocked over by the 2 urchins into the Hammer corals.
But, enough talk... let's see some photos!
Octospawn is now baseball - sized
Pink Tube Anenome
Softball sized Blastomussa colony
Jackie's Duncans had 8 heads when I got it last year... I stopped counting at 40
Will's Frogspawn from the Fragfest
Green Candies
Blue Sponge
This Fungia is between 5 and 6" across
Pulsing Sinularia
Pink Candies
Green Pink - Tipped Hammer
Purple Acro and Pagoda Cup (note the burns from falling into the Hammer Corals)
Neon Green Hammer is about the size of a cantaloupe
Lobophyllia have turned bluer
Orange- polyped Chocolate Monti
Leng Si Montipora
Blue Montipora Undata
Blue Candies
Deep Red Montipora Capricornus (this guy was orange and silver - dollar sized a year ago)
Pom Pom Xenia front; RBTA rear
Honey Digi and Scroll Coral
Still got the ORA Deresa Clam (about 6" in length now)
Neon Candies, assorted Cup and Scroll frags
Tyree Setosa
Perculas hanging out on the LTA
Sea Cuke
Couple more shots
