I got a cute little piece for my birthday( due to the generosity of Nick801) it's red on the outside and green on the inside. it's been about a month and now there is a green coating on the outside rim all around it. I've never had this coral before and I'd like to keep it. Is this how it multiplies? Tank parameters are normal. Is it melting? Or... what?

Green coating? I hope it's not a serious slime caused by irritation or what sometimes precedes death. Unhappy Hopefully it's not that.

Color change is natural and almost expected in every coral we add to our tanks.
But just to be certain, I hope it's not the skeleton showing and starting to have a green algae growth on it. Do you have a pic?

As far as multiplying, LPS do that by budding off little babies. Right now, Paul has some Fungia babies for sale http://utahreefs.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=48436
They also reproduce sexually by sending eggs and sperm out of their central opening, but in our systems the spawn rarely survive, at least that's what we believe.

I went looking and on RC found this pic of a budded baby below the parent, or is it from a spawn? I'm not sure we know which it is.
