I know this is also a favorite for quite a few members that enjoy the diversity in adding macros to our aquascapes and the benifits of natural filtration.  I wish we could see different types offered in the trade and LFS. Maybe we should have a macro table at our frag fest meeting!  I know there is some cool species that some of our members are hiding. Usually they come attached with live rock orders. This would be a good post to add (show your not so common macros).  Thanks for the update Mark!

I have found the genus Bryopsis to be one of the most delicate of all the algae species I've tried to grow. It just does not compete with the stronger types. I know that is maybe contrary to popular belief because so many people have trouble with it, I think mostly because it has few predators? I think it is too bad, because it is pretty, with it's delicate texture. It would look cool as a foreground plant....

Here's a couple of major competitors:

C. serrulata the green razor Caulerpa species actually grows in my tank with 3 large tangs! But, if I leave their mag float empty for meore than a day or go away for weekend, they do pick at it....

If you look closely at the Chaetomorpha (maybe) species that this juvenile seahorse is peeking at, in the bottom pick, it is going to be my new foreground plant. It actually gets a plume when it gets a bit larger! It is a slow grower but worth the wait? I think it is gorgeous!

I have tried to ID the species I have on my webpage but ID'ing them is guessing at best. So many alga species are so similar, I am not even sure that what we have thought to be C racemosa really is! I have 3 that are so very similar. To ID them somewhat accurately, we need to evaluate their internal cell structure!!!

But, there are quite a few pics on my page, for those who like algae pics!

I would love to see these rated in some fashion regarding how aggressive they tend to be and also how messy.  I say messy because my experience with some FW plants was they were constantly breaking off in small peices and ended up in large amounts in my filters.

This is probably a dumb question but is all of this algae good or is some of not good for your tank? Is it all considered macro algae? How do you know what's good and what's not?
