Since doing my last water change.  I have placed 3 pieces close enough to the top of the tank that they will become exposed during water changes.  Is that going to be OK?  The exposure time would not be much more than 5 min. if that.

You should be fine. It is a little stressful on them but they will be fine. I have multiple that come out of the water during water changes.

I have acro tips above water 24/7 now.  They will be fine.

My sps is out of the water a lot longer than 5 mins during my water changes and they are totally fine. Not a big deal at all.
Indefinite hiatus from sw aquariums.

Once I have my glorious return I'll set back up the following.
50 Gallon rimless cube.
180 Gallons mixed reef paradise

When fragging coral, I have left it out of the water for up to half an hour with no problems at all. You can always splash water on it.
The coral that grow at the top of the tidal zone are out of the water for hours at a time four times per day.
