Thought I would show my new frag tank being built by my brother and I. My brother Tyler (Elite Aquatics) helped out and cut out the parts on his cnc router. I wanted a frag tank that was all black other then the front panel. We thought it would be a cool and different to do an oval shaped clear inlay into the front panel so it has a black frame with a clear oval. This tank has a coast to coast external overflow that is VERY narrow @ 1.9" protruding from the back panel. It has a Herbie drain system and we are building a surge device that we will add a little later down the road. Here are some pictures of it being built.

The cutting beginsSmile

Overflow teeth

Tyler made the teeth so they have a taper to them so the water "sheets" down the overflow easier this will also quiet down the water noise going into the overflow. (sorry the panel was a little dustyWink)

Solvent welding the sides to the back panel.

Solvent welding the front panel on. This panel has a channel milled into it for the clear that will be added later.

Here is the clear front viewing panel after being milled. You can see the lip that will mate up the lip milled into the black panel. After this is solvent welded with Weld-On 40 it will become "one" panel.

Solvent welding the bottom

Here you can see where the external overflow will be (not installed yet).

Where'd you pick up the acrylic?  And how are you keeping the sides perfectly square while the solvent does its work?

Looks awesome, btw.  Solid work.

A few new pictures, we made the light brackets (3/4" thick acrylic) We just need to sand down the front panel and polish it and I will be moving it to my house and start getting it plumbed.Smile

Got some more done on the sump today for the frag tank. This sump is built out of type 1 pvc and will be completely hot air welded together, the only piece of acrylic will be the front panel. The eurobrace also has milled channels around the openings to allow the use of lids on each chamber. I have to say after working with Tyler on my sump he really knows his sumpsLOL He definitely builds the best sumps around, having your own cnc router has its percs as wellThumbs Up Thanks again, Tyler. The sump has a 1" inner acrylic tube that will house an LED light to illuminate the sump. Also got the 5 gallon surge reservoir built as well. After we tested it, it will dump 5 gallons of water in 7 seconds to the frag tank below that should be a good amount of water movement in the tankWink

Forgot to mention the flow through the sump, the chamber on the right is where I will be putting all my Seachem BioMatrix which are small rocks. The next chamber is the skimmer chamber followed by the return section in the middle. Lastly on the left is the surge tank water holding reservoir.

UPDATE, wow this was a crazy busy summer for me at work... I finally have some updates to show. I built the stand out of steel and went with a open design because i love all the mechanical aspects of saltwater tanks. So keeping it open means a clean plumbing install and wiring. I built my own auto top off device with dual float switches for safety and also put it on a timer for a third safety. I mounted the 5 gal surge tank high on the wall for max surge. mounted LEDs under the the tank for lighting. Also went with one of my own heater controls that will manage 2 heaters. bought  DA controller to control the pumps and  the surge tank and also the auto top off i built. Should see water soon!Big smile
