I have contacted the local expert in laser building kits and got us a discount. I have decided on the laser we'll be getting ( 1w is powerful enough ). I have found a pair of safety glasses that will go along with the laser. I opted to go with blue laser light, as after extensive research it seems to hold up better through both glass and water than the red lasers.
So I'm opening up donations. We're 25% of the way there already. $30/$120.
If enough donation funds are reached, I will upgrade the heatsync to a copper heatsync.
The same strength laser we're getting was used in THIS video.
Turn your volume up, you can hear it sizzling!

So are you making 1 or 2 of them?
Is this something that is very difficult to make or can some one with very little electrical/technical experience build one? I think it would be cool to build one if possible or even see how the process works of building one.
You have me very interested and curious!

I will be making 1 for the club to use.
They can be a little tricky to put together at times. This kit in particular is pretty hands on, but you have to keep in mind that they are very delicate parts! If anyone wants one for personal use I would be more than happy to help you put one together if you paid for the parts.
I will be ordering my own personal laser when funds allow, and will lend that out to whoever needs it on top of the WMAS laser that will be circulating.

Can't wait to see the first one, we may have you build one. I can see it being a major stress release for my wife. She hates aiptasia with a passion. Great idea!

The laser will be built 4 weeks from tomorrow regardless of donation status. I hope to be able to bring it to the next meeting ( not tomorrows )
Any more donations would be gladly accepted, but I'm more than willing to cover whatever cost for the club.

That's so awesome! It's gotta be good for business as well. People take a store owner seriously when he's killing pests with a 3w blue laser. Just sayin'
On a side note, I will be building a WMAS laser after my coral sale on the 23rd ( assuming people show up ) I should have it ready for club use at the next meeting!

Which one did you buy? Was it all in one unit or did you have to build it?

Thats awesome. Be curious about just what a 1 or 2 watt would do. Not sure if how much you lose out of that though.
