Topic: Anthia advice... Posted: April 06 2013 at 5:44pm |
I want to try anthias again. Is their anything I should know that maybe I don't that would help? I've tried adding 3 at a time, 3 times (total of 9 anthias) and have no luck. I've only tried blue eye anthias. Any advice helps!

Yea! It seems like that's the only fish I struggle with and I want them really bad. Just like, any tips? Things that you've done like what your feeding them. Stuff like that.

I feed frozen twice a day and trade off pellets and flakes as a third feeding. Keep in mind you have to have your nutrients exported so its a balancing act. Here is a great article

They love fish eggs also. Nori sheets are a normal part of my feeding. When the tangs, wrasses and angels tear off pieces the anthias get the little pieces.

Biggest tip buy from a local reefer not a fish store. These fish are so delicate. They are stressed to near death before you ever buy them. I think that is why so many people have problems keeping them. That and the fact they need to be fed 3x a day.

I can give some advice but I need to see pics of the tank with a short description of the filtration, water flow, etc. and might have some questions for you. Mark

I'll get pics up this evening. As far as my tank, it's never been better.
Alk - 8.0 Calc - 400 Mag - 1300 Ph - 8.2 Nitrates - 0 Phos - 0.2
Tank has been up and running since Oct/2011.

Plenty over water flow and just have a basic sump with skimmer, ozone, and carbon.

Anthias have small stomachs and a high metabolism. Most people end of starving them to death. I feed my bartlett's and lyre's 5 times a day. They are all nice and fat with a few of them have nice long streamers as well.
