I didn't read all the above. I run 4 AI vega's on my 150 d. My new tank will run 5 with the same depth.

Which Crees? I've done Crees on both my builds too but there are a lot of different crees to choose from.

Ok...here's the plan...

I *actually* found a used IceCap ballast, so I've ordered that to hold me over until I can make a DIY LED setup.

I'm telling ya Nikki, 10W LED chips.

They're cheap, they come in any color temp you want, and they can grow SPS on the sandbed. I love the 10Ws that are set up over my 90. I have a seller that I use who ships from the USA, and he's extremely reliable. He gives me a deal on the 10W chips. They're like $4 each. I'm currently growing SPS in my 33 long and it only has 2 royal blue 10W led chips over the entire tank. The coloration I get from these puppies is insane, and they give the halide shimmer as well.

The ecoxotic cannons use similar chips, but imagine building a light system that spans the tank out of them instead of just a spotlight. It's awesome.

What stores do I recommend?

Thanks Pete. As I'm designing the fixtures, I'll let you know. My concern is that the 10W may wash out the other colors I want to throw into the mix and be able to control. I'd really like to be able to have the reds, UV, green, orange, etc.

I like using the 3w and 5 watt cree LEDs. You need more of them but they spread the light over your tank better than a 10 watt would even with wide optics. Also, they don't get as hot so temperature control is easier. I used XP-E and XT-E from Reef Led Lights. They pick the more efficient and higher Kelvin chip bins.

Well if you are ever in the South Jordan area and want to check out some lighting options I am running a 210 with 4 Radion pros running at 50% and I am growing SPS on the sand. I also have 3 frag systems, 1 is 5' x 2' x 18" deep running 2 ATI T5 BP and 2 250 watt Radium 20k's. The 2 other systems are 6' x 2' x 18" deep, 1 is running 2 Radion pros about 2.5' off the water and the other is running a 6 bulb ATI t5 fixture with this layout BP BP CP PP BP BP also around 2.5' off the water.

Fair enough! I just purchased a used IceCap ballast for $75 (shipping included). I priced out new 400W ballasts, and they were $140 each plus free shipping. I already have the bulbs and reflectors...just needed the ballasts.

As far as the DIY LED option on my chart...well, I hadn't priced that out at the time...b/c I wasn't considering it then. Laird and Fatman finally convinced me after that point. So, on your behalf, I've added it. The "Reef'd Up Quasar" will pay for itself in less than two years and comes with a lifetime warranty! And...if my labor rate was included...well...yeah, not showing that graph.

Wow...I would love to see that even if I wasn't looking at the Radions...nice! I'm just never in South Jordan.

Yeah, see...I'm hoping I never drop $2k on a light myself. That's more than my first car...which I still own and it runs.

You could build your own set up for about 500$... after that, its nothing but juice you'll pay for.

My design is looking at about $900 for me to get what I want. I know I could go with less, but if I'm going to do this, I'm going to do it where it'll make me happy for a while.
