Don't have them yet - still have halides over the tank

Kessils are on their way; should have them by the weekend

Ah I see. I can't believe how much water movement you are getting from that single wp40!

Yep, and only 40 watts @ max power

I like that I just need the one, and don't have to have a Korallia stuck on the glass every 6 inches...

One thing that I noticed that is different about the wp40 compared to the Vortech or even Tunzes - on the others the prop winds up and down according to the speed or pulse selected; this pump you can actually see the prop come to a complete stop in between pulses. It only lasts a fraction of a second, but I think that is why the pulses are so strong and well - defined...

Right now, I am feeling like this pump is the best $100 I have spent in this hobby in a long, long time...

Do you use the night slow down feature? I have loved this pump so far especially for the money!

I have not plugged in the night sensor yet. I'm gonna give the fish and corals a week to get used to the thing on full power 24/7 before I install the night sensor.

Have the blues set to 70% and the whites set to 35%... and even that low they overwhelm the camera, and the video is all pixelated and color balance is off...

In person? Stunning shimmer and pop - even better than my Phoenix MH!

Very happy so far with the way this tank is turning out

I have to take some time and get some decent photos up...

I have added a ton more livestock to this tank in the past few weeks

Everything is doing very well; I had 1 coral bleach after adding the Kessils... everything else looks fine and has kept it's color - even the SPS

Here's a teaser of the new additions -

I added a fish that is one of my all time favorites. I have only kept this fish once before in a fish only a LONG time ago - never in a reef:

A juvi AUSSIE HARLEQUIN TUSKFISH!

Beautiful Harlequin Tusk Bob! They are gorgeous fish and for some reason I find it difficult to get a good photo of one. You did great on the photo!

Thanks, Mike!

Here are some shots I took tonight:

FTS

The fish are basically all pigs... they kept zooming from one end of the tank to the other, following the camera, thinking were going to get fed.

I have 4 Tangs; Yellow Eye Kole

Convict Tang

Vlamingi Tang (the biggest hog of them all) and his pal the Yellow Tang

2 Hawks; a Flaming Hawk

and a Longnose

A pair of Black Oscellaris Clowns, a pair of Banggai Cardinals, a Heniochus Butterfly, a Yellow Bellied Figi Damsel

Also in there -

A Flame Angel
A Coral Beauty Angel
A Blue Jaw Trigger (Male)

And a total of 8 wrasses = Potter's, Clown Fairy, Blue Belly Fairy, McClosker's Fairy, Christmas, Melanarus, Yellow Coris, and 6 Line

And my favorite, the baby (Australian variation) Harlequin Tuskfish

I am thinking of possibly adding 1 more fish; possibly a Tamarind, Ornate, or juvi Red Coris Wrasse... but not for a little while, as the Tusk and the Heniochus both have a little bit of ich right now.

Not super worried; they still both eat ravenously and the ich does not appear to be worsening... I may soak their food in a little garlic for a bit and see if that helps...

And I have got almost wall - to - wall coral coverage.
Among the many varieties are 5 kinds of Goniopora (Yellow, Red, Blue, Purple, and 'Strawberry Shortcake'); 4 Fungias; Red Robin Stag, Orange, Red, Green, and Honey Gold Digis, Orange, Leng Si, Red, and Idaho Grape Monti Cap; probably 20 different varieties of zoanthids; several different Gorgonian and Sea Whips; Gold Octospawn; a few different varieties of hammers and Frogspawns... and I still have that famous Blue Sponge

Other inverts I still have the ORA Deresa Clam, a couple of Flame Scallops that are almost 9 months old now; my 'Halloween' starfish, a Pink Cucumber and a Tiger Tail Cuke. Plus about 50 hermits and 75 snails. Oh, and a single RBTA.

I am really, really,really liking that Jebao wp40 pump... the entire water surface is constantly churning over; not a single 'dead spot' in the entire tank. Almost dead silent, too.

And the Kessil LEDs I am also loving:

They actually have more 'shimmer' than my metal halides did! Plus, the color adjustability, the lower power usage (180 watts total for both); zero heat added to the tank... still too soon to say how they impact coral growth (only been up for about a month now)... I did have a green Monti Cap bleach out after installing the LEDs, but it could be unrelated - as the other 4 Monti Caps all in the same area of the tank were unaffected by the lighting change.

Down below, everything is working well. Avast CS=1 Cone works great; I'm running the BRS dual chamber reactor set (for carbon and GFO) as well

Parameters are as follows:

Temp = 74 - 75F (24 hr swing)
SG = 1.0255
pH = 8.1
dKH = 9.5
Ca = 420ppm
Mg = 1400ppm
nH3 = 0ppm
nO2 = 0ppm
nO3 = 5ppm
pO4 = 0ppm

Temp is lower than previous tanks because there are no halides heating the water. Nitrates are at 5, instead of 0, probably due to the high fish bioload and associated feedings. Doesn't seem to be affecting SPS coloration anyway. I'll just stick with the monthly 15 gal water changes and won't worry about nitrates unless they go above 15 - 20ppm.

All in all, feeling pretty good about the way the reef is looking right now

I think I learn a little from each one I build. So, in a way, the 'best'...

I do think it is definitely the fastest fully - stocked reef I have ever done; empty tank to 75+ corals and 2 dozen fish in under 3 months!

All without spikes, disease, deaths (fish or coral),and I didn't have any of the usual new tank issues (diatoms, hair algae, cyano, etc)

I believe that there is a sort of philosophy and 'formula' I have created on how to get this done this fast... might be helpful to the newer folks out there. Many times I see people who want a tank like this and don't want to spend a couple of years getting there. So they try a quick setup without knowing all the tricks and pitfalls... and end up with a dirty looking tank full of hair algae, high nitrates, cyano, heavy fish losses, and the inability to keep any corals alive except for button polyps, mushrooms and Xenia (which then overrun the reef). Finally, out of disgust with the whole thing, they get out of the hobby - and sell off on KSL (how do you think I got this tank?)

Maybe I'll do a how - to thread on "Creating a Full - Blown Reef Quickly, Safely, and Effectively...The BobC Way"

A few weeks into running the LEDs now; so far all the coral has acclimated well with a couple of exceptions.

- A Lime Green Digi that has faded / bleached

- A Leng Si Monti that bleached

Everything else appears to be doing well... Here's a video I just shot today:
