Last weekend a hurricane made landfall and churned up the reef. For several months I have been dealing with declining health in my corals - there was a hair algae problem that killed off half my corals and since then the survivors have been limping back to health. So a few weeks ago I cleaned out the refugium, which still had hair algae, and put in fresh chaeto. It definitely helped, but I still felt like I needed to go through the whole system, which I did last Saturday. pulled out all the rock and coral and did a deep gravel vac on the whole sand bed, along with a big water change. I also rearranged some of my wave pumps which were being blocked by rocks that had settled in front of them. After putting everything back in, I'm really happy with the way it's looking. Already my corals look happier. The rock stack is even more up off the sand bed, allowing for better circulation. I also have better surface agitation.
...Long story short: things look better so far. Now I just have to replace one of my Panorama LED modules that keeps turning off for 15 minutes about every hour...
While I was out procuring more crabs and snails, I couldn't resist picking up this guy! Sorry for the picture quality.
