I have three peppermint shrimp and I just noticed that two of them are carrying eggs. Has anyone successfully had eggs hatch and survive or will I be having shrimp burials in my filter sock? I have been trying (unsuccessfully) to convince my clown fish to stop laying eggs because I am tired of holding funerals. Now I have to start talking to the shrimp too?

Thumbs Up
PS Shrimp eggs almost always hatch. The Larvae are great food for so many animals in our tanks: smaller fish, coral, crabs, worms, bugs, etc. are all healthier when they eat live food. I keep a couple PS in almost all my +40 gal tanks. Smile

This is one of the reasons I only occasionally use filter socks. Too much good food is stopped there, kept from reaching the Refugium and circulating back to the display.

There is a cool article in this old Sea Star about how interesting PS are in their mating behavior, i.e., Simultaneous Hermaphrites http://www.utahreefs.com/SeaStar/wmasSeaStarOc00.pdf
