+1 on LaJolla. Check out the off shore kelp forest that you can swim out to. Just off from the seal beach...dang cold :)

La Jolla Underwater Park and Ecological Reserve! Great place, but remember the water is cold. For good gear any dive shop.

My family and I are going to San Diego for a week, and will staying on Mission Bay.

2 Questions:  
Anyone know of any great snorkeling locations in the Mission Bay Area?
Where is the best place to purchase the snorkeling gear?

This will be my first time snorkeling any tips would be appreciated as well.
