I don't know who to ask or who to call for help. Husband hasn't dealt with such appliances before, so he is of no help. I hope to get some help here.

The exhaust in my house is making a weird sound which is intermittent, something like a roaring sound followed by a bird chirping sound. Only my water heater which runs on gas is running at this time of the year.  Any idea what may be going on? Who should I call to inspect and what need be inspected? Furnace? This has been going on for a few days now.

can you be more specific about what kind of exhaust.

This is the chimney-like thing on the roof, intake is from the utility room. Probably it is not called an exhaust. Ermm

I would just replace it. Easy to do yourself.

I am not handy and can't get on the roof. If I were to get professional help, what kind of contractor should I be looking for? HVAC?
