Topic: Shark ID Posted: May 28 2015 at 1:08am |
I take this quiz every month where I ID various fish that this scientific illustrator guy I follow does. Normally I get them since they are often a north american fresh water fish but today he posted a shark. After several hours of searching I've had no luck.
Any help would be appreciated.

This is Miss Dwight, a 30" Nurse Shark we caught in a Provo dentist's large office tank and moved to the Living Planet Aquarium, many years ago when it was temporarily at SLCC. Does anyone know if she is still alive?
Aloha, Mark

I agree with Nurse shark. The tail and medial fin structures of the smooth hound are not correct. to the OP illustration. Krazie

I've been strongly leaning toward a nurse shark as well but what distinct species? The large eyes and small dorsal fins really thow me off. I'm thinking it's some kind of deep sea nurse shark, i haven't been able to place it though.
where is Adam when you need him.

I'd definitely say that is a juvenile megalodon shark

could it be a lantern? judging by the eyes and absent dorsal fin it definitely has to be deep water

I think you're spot on with it being a cat shark. I think I've widdled it down to Apristurus laurussonii (Icelandic Catshark)
Thanks Rastareefer!
