so about three months ago we decided to combine two tanks into one in a 135 gallon tank. ever since we have had one hell of time keeping things alive and happy.
biggest problem was a broken hydrometer that was misleading us on our salinity which put the tank at 1.030 for about three weeks.. lost all SPS during that.. bought a refractometer and are now at 1.025..
bought some leds and did the suggested acclimation for them.. started with 10% and moved up slower over the last month..

we are still losing corals and all lvls i can test are good..
sal  1.025
cal 450
alk 9.5
mag 1420
temp 75-77

we run one wp 40 set at s1 w1 and a wp 25 on the other end in a corner set at s2 else
return is a dc6000 set a full speed. I run ac in my sock, do weekly 10% water changes, run a skimmer and lots of macro.. deep sand bed, lots of rock that I have had for the last three years..
totally at a loss here.. only thing I can think of is that we bought a rubber tote for our sump.. we looked it up and it is a food grade tote....

ideas?? suggestions?? anything.. about ready to call it quits..
here are a few pics

What your water temperature? How often are you feeding? What are kind of food are you using.

Temp runs between 75 to 78 usually about 77.. I feed coral frenzy, mysis, brine, blood worms, copepods, and a mix of dry foods.. Each individually, once to twice a day.. Twice one weekends, once in weekends..

I use a similar tote and worried about phosphates. I haven't had an issue but I suppose it could leach them. Have you checked those levels? Don't give up! I constantly have battles and just spent the last few hours doing a massive water change because of a stupid ass anemone deciding it wanted to see the inside of a pump.

I don't dose often.. Only when needed.. We had some nitrate problems a month or so back but consistent water changes helped with that.. I don't have test for that stuff but am going to invest in some

I would check your po4.

I had something similar happen to me when my phosphates got high.

Have you checked for stay voltage? I had very similar issues a couple of years back and it ended up being a heater with leaky wire sealant and I had lots of extra voltage in my water.

A volt meter. The other way to see if that's it is to put a grounding probe in your sump. If it's not too much voltage then that will take care of it and things will improve. If it's higher voltage then your GFCI will probably pop letting you know there is a leak.

Harbor freight had cheap volt meters and almost every LFS has grounding probes.

Either one is fixable so just finding the cause is the important part.

Well with the help of Badfinger, found out my refractometer was not calibrated, had no idea it had to be calibrated, thanks lfs.. Bad helped me to calibrate it and now my tank is so much happier even after a few hours of raising the salinity! Thank you so much again Chad!! Good guy with a ton of knowledge.. Felt like a total noob compared to his knowledge. lol
