The last couple of months my sps haven't looked so good, poor polyp extension and a couple of acros were going brown. I have even lost a couple to rtn. Well last night my suspicions were confirmed.... I have the dreaded  Red bugs

Luckily Susan has a pill of interceptor and is nice enough to let me have it, I will let you know how it turns out. And if anyone has some suggestions  on dosing this, it would be appreciated.

Here are the pictures that confirmed my suspicions.

Is there anything one can do before adding any frags to the tank to make sure the infection doesnt spread from one reefer to another? I really dread the thought of contracting these bugs and having to use interceptor to kill them along with most of my acro crabs and hermits

What about a dip in Lugols solution. Has anyone tried that? I think that anyone that has had an infestation in the past (even if they are clean now) should inform others before giving out any frags. That way we can properly treat the frag before introducing it into our tank and possibly infecting others later on.

If you read on RC in the sps forum, most people that do recieve new frags do dip their corals and some even quarantine them before putting them into their display tanks.  I haven't bought or traded a frag for months. The last sps coral I acquired was back in May when I bought one down in L.A. And I haven't traded or sold any of my sps, so no one has to worry about getting it from me.

some people say reefdip works... but the ONLY think I think you can really count on is to treat your frags with interceptor. I FW dip wont kill redbugs

Susan had one of the larger pills 23mg, So I crushed it up and then split it in half and then took one of the halfs and split it into thirds. With one of those thirds I mixed with aquarium water  and at 1 pm broadcast it into my tank. I shut down the skimmer and removed my filter sock and carbon, and shut down the ozone. Now I will wait untill 7pm to do the waterchange and add carbon and turn everything back on.

I figured that with my sump, I have around 60 -62 gallons of total water, so Susan figured I should only use 1 sixth of a tablet, Does that sound right to you Corey or Jon?

That sounds right to me.

Keep water going through your skimmer, just shut off the air intake.  You want every bit of water in your system treated.

Just about three hours now, and I can still see them, I don't know if there are as many. Do you think I made it strong enough?

Well, week one is over.... and I'm amazed!   I can't find any, halllilua!!!!

I don't think I lost any of my acro crabs  , so I'm hoping that I can call week 1 a success.  Here are the pictures I just took.

Brad - you have a 25% water change tomorrow - 24 hours after the first water change.  Isn't it amazing how well it works!  Yea!!

Just an update, tomorrow I go through round two, I just took a couple more pictures and still dont see any bugs, so I hope this will do the trick, polyp extension seems better also, you can decide for yourself.
