Topic: Need Identification help Posted: June 22 2017 at 8:44am |
Hey all,
I am new to the saltwater hobby and bought a biocube from a friend who moved. I need help identifying something. I believe it is a mushroom but I am not sure. Please look at the picture and let me know what it is and if I should be concerned about it in my tank.
Thank you, Greg

Maybe a flower anemone. How big is it?

They sure will if it gets too close just like any anemone.

This has not moved at all from its spot. The other anemone I have does move around the tank. Does that change the diagnosis?

No. They can move but they tend to be less prone to just doing it all of the time like other types do.

I put a royal gramma in the tank and it stuck around until the next day. Now it is gone even though I moved all my rock. Is it likely this ate it? Should I remove it from my tank?

No the RG simply died. Sorry. It's the hobby. Death comes unexpectedly. A rock flower anemone is too small to handle a RG. Besides, the only fish an anemone can hang on to is a sick/weak fish. The fish ends up disappearing because worms, bugs and hermits devour it overnight. Love all the nightlife on the reef. Look at the tank at night and enjoy the new hobby. Aloha, Mark 808-345-1049 call/text anytime.

I am surprised that we would not see a fish body if it died. The tank is pretty small as are the hermit crabs and shrimp. I may be wrong but it seems like it would take a day or two to eat that whole fish

The reef is full of surprises, especially at night.
