I was watching my tank and saw 4 separate clouds burst from different holes in my rockwork. I saw no creatures around at the time and all four happened within about 15 to 30 seconds. The clouds were bright red and dissipated in the current fairly quickly. I'm thinking this was some kind of spawning and am wondering if anyone has any idea what created these clouds? Happened too fast for pics

I've never seen a red cloud in spawning. Only white.

Yeah. I've seen white in my last tank from snails. This time it was a brilliant red. Same color as my fire shrimp. From my online research it may be bristle worms as I have several very large worms in my tank. It was cool to see

Cool. Bristleworm spawning is a logical guess. My online research found several videos of Bristleworm spawning. All were white:

The source of the red cloud may have been some other kind of polychaete worm or invert, like a peanut worm or a burrowing clam, living in the rock. What time of day/night did this happen? Closer/longer observation may reveal the animal.

Gotta love it.

Ok, probably not bristelworms. This happened about 2 hours before lights out. I'm going to keep my eye out for it again and try to see if I can see the critter that is putting out the cloud.
