Topic: What is this, and how can I get rid of it Posted: April 15 2007 at 10:08pm |
I have this sponge type starting to grow all over this rock, and will spread to others I am sure, what should I do to get rid of it. I am thinking it is bad.
Any ideas?
Thanks

It's not bad, just bothersome to some people (me included) I just pull it off by hand or use a toothbrush.

It is very good, IMO. Sponge eats bacteria. It is a sign that your tank is healthy, IMO.
If you have to move the rock it is on, try to keep the rock submergered? It will die if it hits air, and dying sponge is not good.

It is very good for the health of a reef aquarium. If you see pictures of actual reefs, the undersides of rocks or the rocks down deep all have tons of sponge all over.
Of all the things that grow in your aquarium, there are thousands that are good and only a few that are bad. Let it grow.

Anything that eats that nasty black sponge that seems impossible to get rid of?

Some large Angels and some Butterfly fish do but they are not reef safe.
