I found a hitchhiker snail in my 55 gal tank a few months ago. We only saw it at night and it was huge, we couldn't believe it had been in our tank so long. I had not added anything but a small baseball size rock with a BTA attached for months. I'm not sure where it came from actually.
Wish I had a picture.
It has a smooth shell and is similar in shape to an Avocado pit except that it is elongated at both ends.  As I looked around on the internet I think it must be some kind of cone snail but I am not sure. It has a purple body with white speckles. He lives in the sand and usually we only see his snout poking up.
I have bristle worms in my tank and I assumed they were killing all my snails. I bought a trap and have been catching them for a week or so.
Last night my son yelled at me that the big snail was out. Then he really yelled and said it just attacked one of our saddle back snails. I didn't believe him but came in with the flash light to see. The big snail was on it's side and I couldn't see his foot. I used my tongs and rolled him over and sure enough he was wrapped around a small snail with only a portion of it visible. I poked the big guy and he let it go. I used the tongs to pull him out and now have him in a bag here on my desk.
What should I do with him? Any ideas? I don't dare put him back in my tank.

If you can take and post a picture. I'm sure people would be interested in seeing this killer!

Beyond that there isn't much that can be done with it. You may try to keep it in your sump if its of interest to you. Otherwise, I'd say destroy it.

If you don't want him, I'll take him.  Where are you?  I think he'd go good in my aggressive tank.

He is in a zip lock bag on my desk here at work. Not sure I can get a good picture in the bag with my phone but I'll try.
If anyone wants him come and get him. He has been in the bag for 24 hours. He seems to be spitting some thing when he gets pissed.

Sounds exactly like my 2 year old!

Please do take a pic and lets see what you've got. This whole spitting thing is rather intriguing. Geek

Tulip Snail and they definitely eat other snails.  But don't worry, they only get 9" long.  Confused
