Okay, so a couple of weeks ago I bought a Sargassum Trigger.  Very cool looking fish, but quite shy.  For the first several days, I would only catch a glimpse of him as he dashed out of sight.  Then, he started coming out and being more social.  Now, for the last 3 or 4 days, I have not seen him at all.  Not a sign of him.  If he were some kind of little blennie or something I might just figure someone ate him or he got sucked into some plumbing.  But this trigger is about the size of a taco! I've had no ammonia spikes or any other water quality problems to indicate a large something or other might be decomposing.  Is it possible he has just gone into hibernation? Or maybe he died and my hermit crabs cleaned him? There's the posibility that he's still hiding, but it's been awhile now.  I would think there would be some evidence of him.  Any ideas?

I have seen a few empty snail shells.  Yes. What do rock crabs look like? Could they take out something as large as a taco?

Could he be in the overflow or maybe jumped out of the tank? Clean-up-crews can be very efficient too.

I had a large tang that went missing. By the time I found out where it was there was nothing but a fish skeleton. I think it was about 4 days from when I last saw it.

Well, I can't see anybody in the overflows.  I have a mesh top for my tank so it would be hard to jump out.

Do they make such a think as an overflow cap? Just a piece of acrylic to keep stuff from jumping or crawling into the overflow?

I've seen them before. You may need to fashion one yourself.

I have not seen any rock crabs, but there is a lot of rock in my tank.  What other predators might be able to take out such a large fish and leave no trace? What about serpent stars?

I've see plastic scourers put in overflows to keep critters out too.

What is a rock crab? Never mind it is hard to remember I can find anything online when there are others to answer. Utah rock limits ones chances...
