It does look like vermitid, but why would they be grouped together? I have only seen them singly.

Got a response from the people at that site:

Quote
What is it question 01/22/09
I have posted this on a couple of forums and have gotten various responses.
My tank is about 6 months old. I have added rock, sand and frags from
several different tanks and locations. They showed up one time and thinking
they were aiptasia I used pickling lime on them.
<Not aiptasia>
They have shown up again and in two different locations so I thought I
should ask what they are.
<I believe they are hydroids.>
They are pretty small, about 1/16 in diameter to give you a scale. Two
pics: one is under 20k MH with 460n actinic (darker one) the other is with
same lighting with flash bounced in from the top. What is it?
<I'm 95% sure they are some type of hydroid (the brown proteinous tubes
give them away).>

Thanks, Steven
<De nada,Sara M.>

So now my question is: What do I do about them?

we had brown ones in our other tank once. they spread like a plague. I have green ones in my nano. they seem to hang out in their own spot and havent spread very far at all. HOnestly the only way to get rid of them is kill the rock

My opinion of the organism pictured in the first post is that they are neither vermitid snails nor sun polyps. They look more like a tube worm to me.
Question Do they capture small particles of fish food or are they feeding on microscopic organisms like algae or copepods?
Question How do they react to light? If they open wider during the day then they are most likely photosynthetic.
They certainly are not bad unless they spread so fast that they kill off other things. I'm curious to know if the tube is hard or soft. My guess is soft because they look somewhat transparent and one of them on the right side seems to be pinched closed just like a retracted Feather Duster Worm.

Jeff will be over to my house in Buhl this weekend to touch them for me. LOL

Actually, I will see if I can find something to probe them that is not too harsh.

I have not observed any feeding behavior but will observe some light reaction.
