Haha, thats great! I can't beleive how hardy those protopaly's are.  Hopefully they start growing like mad, they have been in my tank atleast.  I decided that i'm just going to do my own variation of the 3.24 upgrade.  a lot less of a hassle, and will look just as clean, plus I really only need to spend about $20 for a new ballast, and maybe get a 50/50 bulb.  I have a hamilton actinic bulb, but I think its bad, I have to tap my hood to get it to start up. but the other bulbs work fine.  I wonder what Aquatica's warranty is on bulbs?

Did your new hood come with the ballasts or bulbs?

I have a 10K, an actinic and a 50/50.  When I replace bulbs, I will probably go with two actinics and a 10K for more color.  We could swap bulbs for a week and see how we like each option.

Sounds good to me.  I was really happy, they sent me a new hood with brand new bulbs (my 10k needed to be replaced) and I found out that my hamilton actinic ~might~ be faulty, but i'm not sure, i'll have to play around with it a bit more.  I think i'm going to go with an actinic, 10k and a 50/50 like you had, just for more growing power. but i'm not sure.  I need to call aquatica tomorrow and see how they handle bulb warranty. if there is such a thing.

So I found this today, I guess all I need to do is go pick up a ballast from ews tomorrow, the only brand they carry is Universal Lighting, but they said they have something that would work, and it was like $18 or something like that, i'll pick up that, some new ballast connectors and then i'll just mod my old reflector to fit where the custom nanotuners one is (use tin snips or a saw and cut the fan vents off / drill any necessary holes)

I have a 120v ac power cable from one of the billion computer parts I have lying around my house, because of my primary hobby / job, so i'll just use that for my power to the ballast.

I'll post some pictures Saturday of my lighting upgrade, current status of the tank.

By the way, wheres a goo place to buy Purigen and Chemi Pure Elite? I think I might start putting that through my tank after my water change this weekend.

Have you downloaded the instructions from nanocustoms.com?  That will be helpful in knowing which wires to cut, splice, etc.
