Could you describe it a bit. Based on what I can see it kinda looks like a sea spider but I'm probably way off. Better throw it in a QT tank or something while you have the chance.

if those are striped tentacles, then a spaghetti worm--they build houses in the sand and send out the tentacles to collect detritus.

It is under the sand, and has long string like tentacles (about the size of a very fine hair) that come out. I can see two in my tank right now, so there are probably more... They are striped.
I have not poked at it, but a hermit crab tried to eat one, but it pulled away.

I agree. It is a Spaghetti Worm; a useful and beneficial detritivore; a very good thing to see in your new tank, indicating that it is maturing.
