Hi Everyone!  I just signed up for a membership and am ready to start this crazy adventure of reef keeping!  I'm in the process of getting a tank, or looking for a tank.  I'm up for any suggestions!  It's all a bit overwhelming to say the least!  I'm looking at a used 72 gallon bow front tank with stand for $400.  It has a 30 gallon sump, two 175W or 250W single end Metal Halide lights with ballast to choose from and two Super Actinic fluorescent lights T12/VH0.  This all seems fine and good, but I guess I just want to make sure I'm getting everything I need.  He said the only thing I would need to set up would be power jets for circulation, sand and live rock.   Oh, and of course all the critters.  I'm ready for suggestions, so toss them my way!  I want to get off on the right foot!

Oh, and which of the lights would be the best choice, if I go with this set up?

Thanks all :)

Trish

Welcome to WMAS! To answer a few of your questions lighting 2- 175w Halide lighting is more than adequate for that size tank, however there are several options. I prefer T5 lighting myself, it uses less energy, and produces much less heat. For tips on starting a healthy reef please read this thread, you'll fins TONS of great info http://www.utahreefs.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=9244
