Can someone tell me how to easily convert total alkalinity readings from ppm to dKh?  Or where I could find information about normal/unsafe ranges for alkalinity in ppm? My kit only measures ppm.
Also can someone tell me why dKh is even used? It seems strange since most other results are measured in ppm.

1dkh is 18 ppm. So a range of 8-12 dkh or so would be about 146 to 216 or so.

As for your question on why to use dkh.... now that is a question I've never really thought about. That's a fantastic question that I'll need to look into.
