I bought one of these guys yesterday. I know they sleep in the sand, but soon after I put it in my tank it buried itself in the sand and ha not come out. I was wondering if this is normal, and will it come out when it is more comfortable?

They tend to hide the first couple of days.

How many days has it been missing?

That's normal. I usually don't see them out until about a week in the tank.
None at the moment

They come out when hunger overcomes their fear. A healthy well seasoned reef aquarium entices them out sooner. May we see a full tank pic? What are the Alk and Ca levels? We would be happy to offer some suggestions, because some wrasses never come out of the sand. We wouldn't want that. Smile

A lot of wrasses will bury themselves in the sand when frightened or uncomfortable. We've had our Melanurus for years. He's still the first to bed and the last one up- usually late morning and sometimes early afternoon.
