Ok, so My first question- Are all LED's the same? I am new with them, but LOVE the looks of them.
Now, here is what I am really wondering. We have a bunch of those 7 LED flashlights through out  the house. Seriously, a ton of them, and not enough batteries to keep them going, and on top of it, we hardly even use them, probably twice a year. I was experimenting last night and I had an LED adapter ( I think thats what it is.....) looks like this

And I had A bunch of LED's that were colored blue/purple (with sharpie, I know really redneck!!) And I don't know if this is bad or not but they look really cool, but the LEDs were hooked up- all the negatives together and positives together too, and then hooked to the negative cord and positive cord on the "adapter". There is no open wire, its all covered up and its not close to the water, its in that clear cover that goes over the lights for you guys that have biocubes. It looks really cool. I left it on for my moon lights and all day, you can still kinda see blue when the white bulbs come on and my corals seem to open to it with no problems and it makes there colors POP. is this a bad Idea???? I cant afford regular leds for aquariums and I hooked these up just for moonlight, but like them a lot.... What do you think? Should I get them out, keep them? Will they do any harm, or do just nothing? Are they like the same as LEDs for aquariums? Any input would be awesome!! I am not trying to make this like a real thing, but looks cool and just need to know if I should get rid of them.
Thanks!
-Tanner

No, all LEDs are not the same.  I love your idea of the "redneck" LEDS LOL  Is this additional light you have added to your tank?  I'd say just turn them on for a couple of hours a day and very gradually increase your light time and watch your corals.  The gradual increases should be very gradual.  See what happens!  Its a good idea .. hope it works for you!

Thank you Moli! eah, I have other lights, but just added these cause they give a cool glow to my corals. But yeah I willdo a little at a time and increase it gradualy and see what happens. I dont think anything too bad could happen, but if anything does seem wrong, i'll get them out

if it works, use it. I built a few systems for different purposes. Two for my tanks running cree LEDs and a meanwell driver for one, two cheap 4$ eBay power supplies for the other. Both work well. I've also built two systems for work with the cheap eBay 5$ for 100, 5mm LEDs running off 4 D batts and pointed them at some corals and the colors popped better with those than they do with CFL 50/50s. So in summary, experiment! Just don't drop the stuff in the tank. Lol

Yup, were going to see. Although,  I really want to get LED's  soon in the future - like the non-redneck ones

All LED's are not same but they save lot of power and are bit expensive in nature
