we are thinking about drilling our 55  instead of doing a hob filter. but we don't have the equipment. I don't even know what kind of glass this tank is made out of. I hear that matters. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Take it to Pete Moss. He will drill it for free, so I hear. He has a drilling thread on here somewhere.

If the glass is tempered the second the drill touches it the whole thing shatters in to tiny pieces. There's a laptop test and polarized sunglasses but I can't remember what the difference looks like. I had my tank drilled at Reefon for good price. But if you are close to Pete have him do it, better price.

On a standard 55 gallon tank, the bottom is tempered, so we can't drill there. But I'm more than happy to drill a couple holes in the back of the tank free of charge.

Let me know which day works for you!
