I'm looking to setup my first saltwater aquarium in the next few months (bad tax news just delayed things further) and had a few questions.

I have a 46 gallon bow front and a 10 gallon sump. What is a good affordable protein skimmer that you would recommend for such a setup? In this case, affordable means dirt cheap, because unfortunately that's how interested my wife is in my new hobby.

Thanks in advance, guys!

Personally, I think that is the one piece of equipment you should not go cheap on.  You're better off saving up and getting something that works well.   I would imagine on a tank that small, you could find a nice one for 2-300 bucks. Reef Octopus has one for $189 that is rated for a 100 gallons that would work.  I also like the brand Skimz as well.

I'm sure others can chime in on other good skimmers as well.

Thanks for the response! I had seen the Octopus or Coralife, but as usual I'm looking for the cheapest route possible. Either way it will be a couple months before I get the skimmer, so I can either keep searching or save my pennies.
