I have a large yellow sponge (fist size).  It has slowly started to fall off the rock.  Is that normal for it to get heavy and pull from the rock?
What should I do with it?  Will it attach again? Frag?

Might have got too heavy for it's own good LOL

Any change in color recently?

If you do frag it, keep it submerged and place the frags in a similar lighting situation.

No color has always been very bright yellow.

Is yellow sponge worth fragging?

Really depends if anyone wants some. I haven't seen sponges sell very well in general unless they're a nice blue color.

Let the Sponge find it own place. As it swirls around in the current, it will get lodged in a place it probably likes to grow. If it gets chopped up in a powerhead it will start growing in several places.  Sponge is awesome and really helps promote reef stability. I usually give away small pieces of different Sponge that is growing in my system, yellow, black, white, pink, etc. I have fragged and attached Sponge to rock with elastics. It fully attaches within 2-4 weeks. Keeping it submerged is not so critical for these common types of encrusting Sponge.

Mark  Hug
